Moving On: Transitioning to New Classrooms

After many months of much growth and development, it is time for the children to transition to a new classroom with different teachers as well as many old and new friends. Some of the Kindergarteners have been at Anne Sullivan School since they were three years old and now, at the age of six, they are ready for the “big world.” All the graduates take with them not only the skills necessary to succeed academically, but a view of themselves as capable, empathic and creative individuals.

The preschool and kindergarten years are a critical window of opportunity for social-emotional and cognitive development, physical growth and character formation. Just think how much your child has learned! Eighty six percent of the human brain develops at this time. In the caring, enriching environment of Anne Sullivan School, we actively participate in this process, nourishing each child’s love for learning. We thank you, parents and families, for partnering with us to guide and teach your children at this important stage of life.

The children who are continuing at Anne Sullivan School will transition to their new classrooms starting in the Summer Session which begins Wednesday, June 28, 2017. The school will be closed for two days prior to this date to allow teachers to prepare for the arrival of their new students, (label cubbies, clothing boxes, and children’s files.) The teachers will also receive the assessments from the children’s previous teacher. The Summer Session provides an opportunity for the children to get to know their new teachers, meet their friends and become acquainted with their new classroom.

Three weeks before the end of the Spring Semester, families will be informed via email to which classroom the children will be transitioning. Families are invited to visit their child’s new classroom with their child for a half hour during the last three weeks of the Spring Semester. In addition, teachers will be talking to the children about the upcoming transition during Get-togethers in May and in June and taking the children to visit the new classrooms to meet their future teachers.

If your child is not registered for the summer program, you are welcome to come for a day or two prior to starting the Fall Semester and pay daily. If you have any questions, please come to the office. Anne Sullivan Summer Session is five and a half weeks from Wednesday, June 28, 2017 until Friday, August 4th, 2017. The fall session begins Monday, August 14, 2017.
