At Anne Sullivan Preschool, every moment is a teaching moment!
The caring, child-centered preschool teachers are the foundation of the school’s high-quality program that meets the learning and social-emotional needs of each unique child and his/her family. The preschool program offers the children spacious joyful classrooms set up with stimulating interest areas with books, dramatic play, sand & water, blocks, art materials, music, learning games, and cooking.
Through teacher supported purposeful play, the children learn math and literacy concepts, and develop understanding about science, technology and social studies. Spanish is introduced through songs, games, books and simple conversations.
We adhere to NAEYC’s standard for developmentally appropriate curriculum and teaching strategies based on the way children develop and learn. Class curriculum encompasses social skills, language, reading, math, science, Spanish, music, art and physical education.
Our teachers encourage play and choices throughout the day while providing a balance between teacher guided and child-initiated activities both indoors and outdoors.
We follow The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool as the foundation of its preschool program. The core of the preschool curriculum is a study in which the children and the teachers come up with a topic that they want to investigate and explore. Teachers help children discover what they know about the topic and develop questions about what they want to know. The topic is investigated in group discussions, played out in two or more interest areas, then read about in books & materials provided by teachers & families. Examples of studies are trees, gardening, balls, music making, insects, roads, boxes, exercise, boxes, pets, recycle and simple machines.

Developing social-emotional competence is a predictor of early school success. Constructive and purposeful play helps children develop language skills, learn to solve problems and regulate their emotions & behavior. Stimulating environments indoors and outdoors provide for children’s physical and emotional well-being in their ability to explore, discover, think and learn.
At Anne Sullivan Preschool, each child’s progress is monitored using the Creative Curriculum GOLD™ Assessment System that is aligned to state early learning standards. GOLD is inclusive of children with disabilities, children who are English learners, and children who are advanced learners.
