Environment
Our two-year-old classroom is designed to feel safe, cozy, and welcoming where children can begin building trusting relationships and independence.
We create a secure environment with consistent routines, gentle guidance, and loving interactions so children can feel emotionally valued, supported and connected.
Our two-year-old classroom includes nurturing spaces such as:
- A cozy library for quiet moments and connection
- A dramatic play center to practice everyday routines and emotions
- A sensory table for calming, hands-on exploration
- Block building for cooperation and problem-solving
- Art center with materials for self-expression
- A big rug for music and movement to build joy and body awareness
- Learning games that encourage turn-taking and patience
Every area is designed to encourage children to share, communicate their needs, and build friendships.
Our Standards
We follow the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) standards to ensure our program is developmentally appropriate for two-year-olds. At this stage, learning happens through play, relationships and hands-on experiences.
Since two-year-olds are learning how to express their feelings, build independence and form early friendships, our teachers model kindness, patience, and empathy while helping children to:
- Use simple words to express their needs and feelings
- Practice sharing and turn-taking
- Guide children to solve simple social conflicts
- Build self-confidence
Assessment
To support each child’s learning and growth, we use the Creative Curriculum GOLD™ Assessment System to monitor progress throughout the year. This research-based assessment tool is aligned with state early learning standards, helping us track important developmental milestones children reach at each age.
Through ongoing observation and documentation, we learn about each child’s temperament, interests, and developmental progress. This allows teachers to attend to all learners, and intentionally plan activities that stimulate:
- Emotional growth
- Communication skills
- Social interactions
- Cognitive development
- Independence
- Large and small motor coordination
Diapering & Potty Training
Care routines are an important part of this age group and are handled with warmth, respect, and consistency.
Diaper changing is always a positive, one-on-one interaction between teacher and child. These moments provide opportunities for connection, communication, and trust-building.
As children begin showing signs of readiness for potty training, we partner with families to create a consistent and supportive plan. Potty training is approached gently and without pressure, recognizing that every child develops at their own pace.
